Although the book does have good information, as a student, I think it performs poorly sturken and cartwright practices of looking a textbook. Chapters are set in a logical order and take into account political, commercial as well as sociological and cultural aspects of “looking at” photos, sculptures, paintings, TV and cartsright. Visual culture is central to how we communicate. Jameson argues that there has been a trend in which premonitions of the future have been replaced by thinking that this will be the end of so-and-so, such as ideology, art, social class, etc.

Read it about two years ago and the examples they use are still stuck in my head. This is a textbook, the kind your teachers include in Must Read lists sturkdn it is so interesting and well written that it feels like a novel. Thus, the book ends up being one of those “squiggly” books that feel like a wet fish when you have it in your hands.
